In our "Meet the Team" series we've asked each of our advisory board and founding team members a series of questions so you can get to know them.
Today we'd like to introduce Ryan Burkett, a member of our Advisory Board.
Here's what he had to say:
Hi! I’m Ryan Burkett. I’m a comedy writer, director, and producer in Chicago. I love improv, sketch comedy, dogs, and comic books. I eat too many burgers, but also please tell me if you hear about a good burger.
What's something you've been reading/watching/listening to lately that you're loving?
My favorite series binge this year was Search Party; totally engrossing and unpredictable. I also loved Palm Springs, which juggled and blended basically every genre of movie while staying light and charming. And of course I’m loving all the quarantine comedy my friends are making, like Garrett Williams and Colin Rourke on Twitter.
What is something you're working on right now (or recently) that you're really pumped about?
I wrote a play last year called I Held Your Hand that I’m anxious for people to see, and we’re back to recording The Music Video Podcast semi-regularly. Otherwise, I’m working on some short-form video projects for friends (hopefully I’ll be able to talk more about these soon.)
Any new pandemmy hobbies?
No new hobbies per se, but we got a dog a few months ago, and that’s been huge and fun. Also I recently transitioned my comic book collection from boxes to bookcases, and it’s completely energized my interest in them.
What made you want to get involved with Trident?
I wanted to get involved with Trident because I love collaborating with and celebrating my talented friends (and of course meeting new talented friends.) I’ve worked with Val in the past, and she’s a rare mix of organized and hilarious, and I knew I would learn something.
What are you most excited about when it comes to Trident?
I’m most excited about finding new opportunities for collaboration, for talented people who might otherwise not be connected to be inspired by each other.
What is something you wish more people knew about you? A fun fact or secret talent?
I wish I had a hidden talent! My dream is being the guy who surprises everyone by being able to do a backflip. My version of that: If you’re putting up a sketch show, or filming a video, and you’re looking for a prop? I’m the guy who has it, or knows who does.
